Scene by Scene: Ask First, Write Later

Before you write any scene, ask:

Why does this scene exist?
Are the characters in this scene necessary?
Does the scene have adequate conflict?
Is it clear what the person driving the scene wants?
Where is the scene located?
Is the scene an act out?
Is the scene part of a B or C-story?
Is there something surprising about the scene?
