Built from the Revised Network Draft (01/29/21). In that draft the school is Harrity and the characters have different names; the aired names are used here. A few cutaways (the axe-throwing studio, the trashcan fire) may not be in the broadcast cut. The act breaks don’t move.
The Four Storylines
A — Janine needs a rug. The engine: a small, concrete, winnable want that stands in for everything the school doesn’t have.
B — The young teachers want the old teachers’ respect. Where the show actually lives. Janine and Barbara carry it.
C — Ava. Incompetence at the top, and the underfunding it makes worse. The obstacle and most of the comedy.
D — Replacing Ms. Schwartz. The shortest line, and the one that delivers Gregory. It resolves inside the episode; the others don’t.
